After 40 plus years in broadcasting, where your office was either in a luxury hotel or a multi-story skyscraper, it came as no surprise when John Harrington decided to build his own Northen Michigan radio station, that he chose the Perry-Davis Hotel for the business office and broadcast studios.
In the early days of broadcasting the FCC radomly assigned Call Letters. Stations would make the best of trying to create a memorable logo. Such was the case of WBBM when they came up with "We Broadcast Better Music". Eventually stations could request a personalized call sign. WGN whose early affiliation with the Chicago Tribune choose "Worlds Greatest Newspaper". John Harrington picked WJML for his children John, Mike and Linda. It also lent to a logo that was incorporated into jingle package "Just Magnificent Listening"
